Royal Caribbean launches new ship, and new theatre, with Jewel of the Seas

With the launch of Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines' Jewel of the Seas this September, Wilson Butler Architects celebrated the opening of their 16th shipboard theatre designed for Royal Caribbean International's fleet since 1997.

The 900-seat Coral Reef Theater, features a four-deck-high fly loft. In its first season it will host three exciting new productions from Royal Caribbean, including an authentic tango show, "Tango Buenos Aires," starring Argentinean dancers and musicians, and two musical reviews. "City of Dreams" features the music of top artists including Billy Joel, Elton John and Celine Dion, while "From West End to Broadway" presents a variety of musical numbers from Cole Porter to Les Miserables.

The September 19th Boston Globe article "Whatever Floats The Boat", featured Jewel of the Seas, this fourth and last ship in RCCL's "Radiance Class". This in-depth piece paints a fascinating picture of the "logistics that get a $230 million ship built, provisioned and on its way, but also the planning that keeps these floating cities humming for weeks at a time."
