A continuation of the Mein Schiff series, MS5 and MS6 are the latest in a class of ships advancing elegance in travel. The ship’s clean lines, passenger amenities and neutral sand and marine palette reflect the modern European style that German passengers seek. Well-being is the central concept behind these sister ships, exemplified by a diversity of personalized, intimate experiences heightening every aspect of the journey.

PERFORMANCE

The performance venues aboard the Mein Schiff series are unprecedented on the high seas. The Main Theater, designed in a contemporary, clean aesthetic, spans decks 3, 4, and 5 and seats approximately 1,000 guests. Elaborate theatrical productions can be presented on a fully-automated stage. The venue, like many state-of-the-art land-based theaters, also supports complex rigging capabilities and performers’ flying equipment for added theatrical drama. A moveable, programmable LED video wall is installed on stage to allow for a magnitude of colorful scenery options and interactive video programming.

The design concept and finishes from MS3 and MS4 have been completely reconceived for the Theaters on these two newer ships, while the second venue has been more dramatically transformed.

The Klanghaus (Sound Room) on MS3 and MS4 was a first-at-sea concert hall, seating over 300 guests, with a focus on chamber music. Inspired by the Berlin club scene, the space on MS5 and MS6 has been transformed into The Studio, a classics-meets-club environment with a more urban, “found space” décor, while maintaining versatile programming including music, dancing, small theatrical productions, films, and lectures.

HOSPITALITY

The Pool Decks were planned to provide guests with a variety of social and well-being experiences. These include another first-at-sea, the 25mSports Pool with lap lanes, and the pool deck stage, programmed for day and night entertainment.

With wellness and sports a fast-growth priority among travelers, Mein Schiff delivers. The sports deck provides a flexible court for basketball, volleyball, and handball or can be transformed into a grand viewing area complete with stadium seating to watch your favorite spectator sport. In the evening, the space can become a cinema, with first-run movies playing on the large LED screen.

The Suites Sun Deck provides an exclusive oasis for Suites passengers. With the feel of a yacht club, a meandering path connects the two private areas where the guests are pampered in style. The aft area with views to the Pool Stage features lounge furniture where guests can relax with a drink, while the forward area with its spectacular views of the sea has a Jacuzzi surrounded by sun loungers and day-beds.

An inviting bar has been added adjacent to the Studio, transforming what was a rather quiet conference area on previous ships, and further enhancing the venue as a full-service destination for socializing, fun, and entertainment. Comfortable and inviting furniture has been combined with traditional concert seating to create a lounge-like feel.

INNOVATION

In addition to the décor changes in The Studio, the venue has been reconfigured to include another first-at-sea: a 3D hologram projection system that amazes audiences for entertainment, education or corporate functions. A 21st-century twist on a Victorian theater illusion, the technique allows interaction between real actors on stage and life-like holograms of prerecorded content.

As on MS3 and MS4, The Studio on MS5 and MS6 maintains an artificial reverberation system to ensure a “natural” sound for chamber music, along with state-of-the-art projection and surround sound for cinema. Color-changing, programmable theatrical lighting has been added to enhance the new club-like atmosphere – all incorporated within the architecture.

The colorful nightclub ambiance has been extended to the Pool Decks as well, where the party atmosphere of the Pool Stage with its formidable sound system has been augmented by the addition of infrastructure for a nighttime entertainment spectacle. Canopies, screens and theatrical equipment have been added for a mega-show involving lights, sounds, and video.

The Sports Court on Main Schiff 6 has been redesigned to provide a visual connection to the Aerobics Studio, smaller, more sculpted stadium seating, and a lounge-like overlook for spectators. The court surface and wall graphics hint of old-world gyms, and the soaring new shade structures envelop the space, attracting active participants and spectators alike.
